Sulfur/MSM Potential

 In Bio-Activated Minerals

Sulfur/MSM

Sulfur/ MSM is found in just about all our cells, bodily fluids, tissues and we can access Sulfur in our diet. It is found in milk, vegetables, a selection of fruits and in some grains. Because it is in just about all our cells, then it makes sense that we must keep the intake of sulfur at an optimum level.

While Sulfur/MSM is found in most natural, raw foods, it is a volatile compound and can be lost readily through processing, i.e high heat, freezing, irradiation and storage. Also with the poor commercial farming practices, many nutrients are not giving us what we really need for nutrient rich minerals to allow our bodies to function at our optimum.  Hence, our diet can be devoid of sufficient Sulfur needed.

MSM (methylsulfonylmethane) is an organic form of Sulfur, it is water soluble and offers a wide range of benefits.

The level of Sulfur in our circulatory system of an adult is approx 0.2mg/kg and we can lose from 4 to 10 mg of Sulfur everyday through urination. So you can see that it is lost easily and needs to be replaced daily. Sulfur performs many functions and low levels of Sulfur has been suggested to contribute to some degenerative diseases, fatigue, depression,

What Sulfur does for you:

  • It is the third abundant mineral in your body and acts in the muscular tissues, skeletal system and the assisting of protein structure.
  • Plants absorb MSM when it rains and they convert it into Sulfur which contains certain amino acids. While your body makes approx 80% of your amino acids needs for protein production, it requires the remaining essential amino acids from your diet.  The proteins made from many amino acids assist in connective tissue in your body, support strong nails and hair, (the protein called Keratin).
  • Collagen is an abundant protein in your body and Sulfur is needed to assist in the production and also a protein called elastin. A lack of Sulfur can contribute to fibres and tissues losing their elasticity and causing stiffness in joints and muscles.
  • Enzymes, which are proteins control essential life functions. Sulfur is responsible for the structure of those enzymes and without Sulfur enzymes cannot reproduce as well to serve essential functions such as metabolic processes, glucose metabolism to name a few.
  • Also crucial is the role energy production in the mitochondria (the powerhouse of your cell) for converting carbohydrates into energy.

The Benefits Sulfur can offer you with:

The literature out on Sulfur is  huge, but I will keep it brief here, but rest assured it is a must have mineral.

  • Optimal function of each cell, tissue and organ.
  • Alleviating Chronic Pain, i.e osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.
  • Fibromyalgia.
  • Headaches and migraines.
  • Muscle cramping and stiffness, combine Sulfur with Vitamin C
  • Tennis elbow and Bursitis, Carpal Syndrome.
  • RSI (Repetitive Strain Injury).
  • Sclerosis.
  • Scaring, due to burns, or accidents.
  • Assist diabetes, as Sulfur is a component of insulin.
  • Assisting with reducing allergies.

How does Sulfur/MSM work?

  • It is a natural analgesic whereby it can block the transfer of pain impulses through nerve fibers.
  • It enhances the activity of cortisol. Cortisol is a natural anti-inflammatory hormone your produces.
  • Permeability of the cell membrane is enhanced with assists with the uptake of nutrients.
  • Blood circulation is improved by Sulfur supporting blood vessel dialation.
  • It is a natural muscle relaxant, which is good news for chronic pain sufferers.
  • Aids in the natural defense mechanism by regulating prostaglandin metabolism. (Prostaglandin are a group of lipids that assist injury or infection site of damaged tissues, i/e inflammation, blood flow, etc).
  • Supports crosslinking in scar formation associated with collagen. Sulfur/MSM will support the scar regenerative process, making the scar forming more flexible.  (It is believed that MSM ointment can have a dramatic effect on scar tissue regeneration, i.e burns).
  • Assists in the uptake of many nutrients.
  • Helps with free radical elimination.
  • Has a major antiparasitic property to bind to mucosa (lining) and a natural blocking interface between hosts and parasites.
  • Regulating oxygen levels more efficiently and blood clotting by improving cell membrane permeability.
